The Surf Monkey Race was super fun! I had a blast and it felt really good to unleash the beast for some multisport fun. Check out my race report:

All the gear it takes for running, swimming and paddling

The video pretty much sums up the race, but I'll provide a few more details here:
Run: My splits were 5:47, 6:34 and 6:04 for a total time of 18:38, which is only 18 seconds away from my PR. Not bad for this early on in my "comeback" and being ~10lbs heavier. Stoked to be running again!
Swim: I swam sans wetsuit and it was kind of cold, but after 5 minutes it didn't matter. I felt sore in my lats from the ActiveX workout on Wednesday (Reps: 20/15/10 - medicine ball squat jumps (24lb), kettlebell swings, V-ups, pushups, pullups) but managed to go 6th in my age group with a 35-minute swim.

Stand up paddle boarding (SUP): While transitioning from swim to SUP, the final stage of the race started without me. I was playing catch up from the start and to make matters worse, I got totally slammed by 3 waves on my paddle out and lost a bunch of time and energy just getting out past the break. Plus, I had never paddled in the open ocean so I kept falling off at the beginning. I went from being so frustrated to laughing at myself so it was all good. I was simply out there to enjoy the day. I found my rhythm on the open water and paddled my way to and from the buoys and back to shore.
King Monkey Stage Race: 3rd in my division and went home with a new pint glass!
