This weekend I participated in my first-ever stand up paddle board race. It was a great event and a killer workout!

The YMCA Bay 2 Bay Regatta 5-mile SUP event started at 9 a.m. Saturday on Shelter Island and finished at Tidelands Park on Coronado Island.
This was my third time on a SUP and I gave it my "all" for an hour and 20 minutes until I crossed the finish line. I rented a Laird 12'1" from Aqua Adventures. Next time I'll use a shorter board because I got smoked by most of the folks on 10-foot boards.

Special thanks to my sponsors: EXSTA, RunJunk.com, SkinFit USA and Team Compex. I am grateful for your support!

A bunch of my friends did the race as well, in the tandem kayak category. So after the event, we all gathered back at my place for a "nautical-themed BBQ" and I unleashed the famous Beer Brats which were a big hit. Be sure to bookmark the recipe and give it a go this summer -- you'll be the hit of the party, guaranteed.

On Sunday, a couple of buddies and I dropped into Penasquitos Canyon for a 12-mile loop on our mountain bikes and then we hit the beach for sun, bocce and Frisbee. Unfortunately I messed up my toe pretty badly while running down a Frisbee on the beach. So again, my "comeback" is plagued by another setback...

I'm nearing the end of my physical therapy sessions and have one solid 25-minute run without pain in the books using a new shoe. I'm excited to build my base back--slowly and steadily--but at this rate it's going to take serious patience to get there.

My next big adventure is an East Coast trip for the July 4th weekend, but until then, stay tuned for more fun times, photos and local adventures! Thanks for joining. :)

No gnarly busted toe pics? I'm disappointed! ;) Have a great trip out East for the 4th- I'm heading out West. Coast swap. Glad to see you're still finding ways to race even while coming back from an injury. Keep up the good work, Tobes!
Dude!!
Killer pics as usual!
We need to grab beers!
dude you got it all in and some insane pictures to match. I was just going to ask what you were doing on the 4th... Hopefully we can hang again when you get back. enjoy!
