Summer in SoCal must have gotten an extension because the weather has been amazing this month. From training and climbing to photo shoots and charity events, I’ve been taking full advantage and enjoying every minute!

For training, I’ve been conditioning with the ActiveX crew and my High Voltage Fitness crew. I’ve also been climbing harder than ever and getting in some shorter, faster runs. To support my buddy Austin for the Austin 70.3, I joined in his peak training session with a solid multisport day consisting of a 1-mile open water swim, a 42-mile bike and a 6-mile run at a 7:45 pace.

A couple weeks ago I was auctioned off at the Cheers for Charity Date Auction and Raffle, a fundraising event hosted by my colleague, Kevin Beatty, and his friend in their effort to raise funds for the ING NYC Marathon charity, Run For Something Better. Kevin was kind enough to donate to Outdoor Outreach in September, so when he asked me to help with his event, it was the least I could do. Even though I was only auctioned off for a ridiculously low price of $110 (must be the economy ;) it was seriously an awesome event and I had a blast. The event brought in nearly $2,600 which met Kevin’s fund raising goal. My date package includes a night downtown with the lucky lady. We'll enjoy drinks at Sidebar, dinner at Monsoon and tickets to a comedy show. Not bad at all!

This weekend, I enjoyed a big group camp/climb trip to Joshua Tree National Park for the 3rd Annual BBQ on Intersection Rock. We had a blast, climbed hard, rocked out in costumes and enjoyed the perfect weather.

On Monday, I had the unique opportunity to do some fitness modeling for Under Armour here in San Diego. I met a group of athletes, including Chris “Macca” McCormack, for a photo shoot out in Julian at dawn to model their new running clothes. The folks from Under Armour were great and fun to work with. We had photos taken of us running uphill, downhill, through a field and on a trail. It was a really cool experience, plus hanging out and running with Macca for half the day was a real treat.

Now it’s time to train for my final event(s) of the season and I’ll be building my long run mileage to peak at 40-60 miles in 2-3 days, three weeks before I run the North Face Endurance 50M and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Vegas Marathon back-to-back. I’ll keep you posted on the progress.
