Last week was monumental for my family, so I want to start by sharing the exciting news: my brother and his wife became proud parents of beautiful twin girls! I’m so excited to be an uncle and to visit my nieces in December to officially welcome them into the family. My parents are stoked to be grandparents, and it’s just an exciting time for all our friends and family.

Prior to traveling back east for the holidays, I’m racing the North Face 50 Mile Endurance Challenge Championship in San Francisco on Saturday, Dec. 5 and after the race, immediately flying to Vegas to run the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon the next morning on Sunday, Dec. 6.

Before the heavy run training begins, I’m rock climbing, functional training, running (low mileage/intensity) and cycling. It feels really good to climb again, and I’m excited for the camp/climb trips on the calendar this fall.

I started hosting a once-a-week, group workout series called High Voltage Fitness last month. Most of my inspiration came from ActiveX, the Wreck Yourself Wednesday crew and the Gut Check Fitness bootcamp workouts. This kind of training really gets me stoked because the results of going hard directly benefit all aspects of strength and conditioning. Designing workouts that target my weaknesses is key, but sharing the fun with a group of friends for 30 to 40 minutes is a huge bonus!

Last weekend I attended the Allied Climbers of San Diego Annual Celebration. ACSD is a local non-profit--kind of like the Access Fund--and are, “dedicated to promoting and maintaining access to climbing and outdoor recreation.” They put on a beautiful event at the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon with a silent auction, dinner, drinks, and presentations.

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of watching Rodrigo y Gabriela play here in San Diego. I’ve been a huge fan of their music for a couple years now and seeing them live was hands-down worth the $17 Ticketmaster convenience fee. If you want to hear how they sound and know more about them, read this article.

October has already been a great month, and I still have fun events on tap like the Cheers For Charity Date Auction and Raffle tomorrow night, the Chancellor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk for Scholars next Friday and a Joshua Tree climbing trip in a week. Stay tuned for more updates!

  2. Toby,

Thanks for the note. It's flattering to hear you say I'm a great athlete considering the amazing (and crazy lol) stuff you do! I'm amazed and can only hope to achieve such things in a lifetime. Congrats to your bro and his wife on the twins!
    Take care,
